Hermes Agent Integration

Hermes Agent is a CLI AI agent that can browse the web, run code, manage files, and more. Connect it to the gateway for access to all providers.

Installation

pip install hermes-agent

Or using pipx:

pipx install hermes-agent

Configuration

Environment Variables

export HERMES_PROVIDER=custom:gateway
export HERMES_BASE_URL=https://viprouter.com
export HERMES_API_KEY=your-api-key

Config File

Create ~/.hermes/config.yaml:

provider: custom:gateway
custom_providers:
  gateway:
    base_url: https://viprouter.com
    api_key: your-api-key

Usage

Basic Chat

hermes "What is the weather in Tokyo?"

With Specific Model

hermes --model openai/gpt-4o "Explain quantum computing"

Multi-Turn Conversation

hermes --interactive

Run Code

hermes "Write a Python script to sort a list"

Browse Web

hermes "What's the latest news about AI?"

Tool Use

Hermes Agent can use tools configured in the gateway:

# Enable MCP tools
hermes --mcp "Search for recent AI papers"

File Operations

# Read files

Terminal Commands

# Run shell commands
hermes "List all files in the current directory"

Model Selection

Use any model configured in the gateway:

# OpenAI
hermes --model openai/gpt-4o "Hello"

# Anthropic
hermes --model anthropic/claude-sonnet-4-20250514 "Hello"

# Google
hermes --model gemini-2.5-pro "Hello"

Virtual Keys

Use gateway virtual keys to enforce budgets and rate limits:

### Custom Tools

Add custom tools via MCP:

Logging

Enable request logging:

hermes --verbose "Hello"

Logs are available in the gateway dashboard.

Troubleshooting

Connection Refused

Ensure the gateway is running
Check the base URL

401 Unauthorized

Verify your API key is valid
Check the model format: provider/model-name

Tools Not Working

Ensure MCP is enabled in the gateway
Check tool server configuration
